Companies may now create a loyalty club, without overloading consumers with plastic loyalty cards. Customers register to the loyalty club and receive their unique mobile barcode on their mobile phone. Each time they visit the company’s stores, they present the barcode to the cashier and can either earn points depending on their purchases, or redeem the points they have already collected.
Consumers no longer need to carry their loyalty cards, since their “card” is stored at their mobile phone. In return, companies are able to collect data about the purchases of the customers without having to bother them in person.
